Hawaii’s beachy vibe and scenic islands make it an ideal destination to shoot movies like Jurassic World and Indiana Jones. And while we love action films, we’re all about smiling. And funny enough, there are many classic comedy movies filmed in Hawaii.
While locals can spot our beaches and rainforests any day, visitors may not have such a keen eye. Some movies with locations dubbed as “international landscapes” were actually filmed in our backyard!
Check out 3 of our favorite comedies filmed in Hawaii:
Snatched
Filming location: Oahu
Snatched, a hilarious movie starring Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn, features a South American vacation, but the filming location was actually in Honolulu and Waianae! Yes—you can lounge at the very same pool that Amy Schumer did without a passport. If you swing by The Four Seasons Oahu, you’ll see the same pool and bar featured in the movie.
50 First Dates
Filming location: Oahu
All romantic comedy devotees have seen 50 First Dates. Some Hawaii spots featured include Waimänalo, Kāneʻohe Bay and Waimea. Unlike Drew Barrymore’s memory in the film, those Hawaiian landscapes are unforgettable.
Tropic Thunder
Filming location: Kaua’i
While we hope you don’t find yourself stranded in the rainforest, the plot of Tropic Thunder has us laughing out loud. Footage was filmed in Kaua’i, home to lush mountains, deep canyons and some of the world’s most beautiful beaches.
